Relieve Neck Pain by Understanding the Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) Muscle
Neck pain and "tech neck" are often linked to the sternocleidomastoid (SCM)—a key muscle running along the front and sides of the neck. It connects the sternum, clavicle, and mastoid process (behind the ear), helping with head rotation, side bending, and neck flexion.
When overworked or tight, the SCM can cause neck pain, headaches, and nerve pressure. To release it, gently rotate and tilt your head, then massage the muscle along its length and attachment points. Use breathwork and hold for 5–8 breaths or about 30 seconds per side. Regular stretching and massage can reduce tension and support long-term relief.
